The alley network along with the street network define the main structure of the area around the buildings.
During the construction of the lanes and the alley network there are specific conditions and requirements - both for the inclination and for the types of pavements, in accordance of the purpose of the nearby buildings and the environment that the objects are in.
For example, when alleys are formed in the park, the requirement for the inclination and the texture of the pavements give more freedom to the designers and the contractors.
In such cases are eligible larger inclinations and the very texture of the surface can be quite different - from pavement to gravel rammed pavement or even sealed wood flooring.
The inclination of the alleys in the park can also be quiet different and tailored according to the slope of the surrounding terrain, so that to fit harmoniously with the general appearance of the environment.
The lanes in the urban and residential environment are consistent with the more intense flow of people and their design requirements impose for lower inclinations consistent with the movement of mothers with strollers, young children and elderly residents.
The materials and plates used are of finer texture and are secured against slipping in wet weather. The design of stairs along the intensively used walkways and sidewalks is avoided wherever possible, and if the displacement cannot be overcome in any other way than by using stairs, they must be duplicated with ramps with the suitable inclination.
The alley network and the street pavements in the urban environment can be built from plates appropriate for that purpose, as well as from pavements that are poured in place - suitable decorative stamped concrete, different polymer blends and others. Combinations of different materials, tiles, textures and methods of application are possible, which will diversify and decorate the area.
Through changes in the color and the texture of the surface are also marked the inclination changes of the alleys, the presence of stairs and ramps, the edges of sidewalks and other features that require a change in the movement of people.
In some cases, it is permissible the alleys to be used not only by pedestrians but also by regular movement of cars and other vehicles, however this should be known in advance to allow for a sufficiently sustainable pavement to be applied.
The design and the implementation of the alleys and sidewalks, their transverse and longitudinal inclination shall comply with the conditions for water drainage, so that after raining or washing the existing water to drain for an optimal period of time. That water should drain into the nearby green areas or to the nearest sewerage network shafts.
