At the design and construction of the underground and aboveground parking lots and garages must be observed a number of conditions for safe movement of people and vehicles.
The things that should be complied with include:
- Directions for the movement of the people flows who leave their cars in the parking lot or the garage;;
- Directions for the movement of vehicles and people;
- Suitable indication of the individual parking lots;
- The need for sidewalks in cases of high traffic flows of vehicles;
- Signs and light signals system;
- Instructional signboards;
- Lighting;
- Ventilation of the underground parking zones and garages;
- Inclination of the ramps to the underground parking zones and garages;
- Suitable parking pavement or special parking items (concrete or plastic on grass joints, all-purpose pavement with the ability to cover tight the parking spaces or all-purpose pavement with grass gap);
- Systems for melting of ice and snow on the open parking lots and garages, and on the ramps for the covered parking lots and garages;
- Inclination for the effective draining of the water towards the nearest sewer pumping-shafts;
- Optimal inclination of the ramps for access to and exit from the covered parking lots and garages;
- Systems for controlled access to the parking area;
- Effective shading of the open parking lots;
- Lighting and sound, and much more.
